The Simpsons opening credits are one of the most well-known of all television shows, featuring an array of jokes even before the episode proper has started.

There are three main styles of opening credits: the regular sequence present from Season 2 to Season 20;

Specials & parodies

The Thompsons

During the Season 5 episode Cape Feare, the Simpsons family arrive at their new home, the house boat, with a parody of the opening sequence. When the sit on the couch fish fall down from above.

Fat Bart

This parody takes place during The Heartbroke Kid. An overweight Bart leaves school, cracking the pavement and ramming Marge's car on the way home.

Live-action opening

The British television channel Sky1 commissioned a live-action version of The Simpsons opening to promote the show. It became popular on the Internet and it was used for Homer Simpson, This is Your Wife, written by British comedian Ricky Gervais.

Christmas opening

The episodes Kill Gil, Volumes 1 & 2 and The Burns and the Bees, which both aired prior to Christmas, featured a snow-covered opening sequence.

Bart drives Homer's car

In Little Big Girl, Bart is awarded a driving license and drives home from school.
