Springfield is experiencing an unusually strong thunderstorm, and the rain is causing roofs to leak all over town. Homer devises a unique solution for getting the rain water out of their house that ultimately fails and sends him dejected off to Moe's, where he ruins Lenny's surprise party. Homer goes off wandering and finds himself at a bar called Knockers, where he makes a new friend named Ray (played by Ray Romano), who is a licensed and bonded roofer. Marge takes the kids on some errands while Homer and Ray almost begin the roof repairs; they screw around and never get around to doing any work until he gets called away. Marge wants Homer to fix the roof by himself. Continue...
Approaching the 350th* episode (which airs tonight), there have been many articles in the news about how long the show has left and so on. So I thought I'd compile the best few into one post here. Enjoy!
* Yes, we know Fox screwed up again...Future-Drama was the 350th episode, Don't Fear The Roofer is the 351st episode.
When a show reaches an impressive 350 episodes, it's fair to reflect on its mortality. So how long can "The Simpsons," which hits the milestone Sunday, keep going? "I don't see any end in sight," creator and executive producer Matt Groening told The Associated Press.
No End In Sight For 'The Simpsons'
It's a cliche for reporters to ask the creator of a long-running TV show about his favorite episodes, and the cliched response is for the creator to say that he loves them all and can't possibly single out one or two.
Groening Ponders Future of 'The Simpsons'
After all this time, it's hard to talk about "The Simpsons" without bringing on the superlatives, especially the word "longest." The FOX fixture, which airs its 350th episode, "Don't Fear the Roofer," on Sunday, May 1, enjoys the dual distinction of being the longest-running prime-time animated sitcom and having the longest list of celebrity guest stars of any animated series.
'Simpsons' Celebrates the Big Three-Five-D'oh
And finally, here's one good for a laugh. It conveys some of my feelings for the show now, but it is very poorly written and full of mistakes - see how many you can spot!
Brilliant sitcom on life support
Oops, looks like we forgot to write about this episode on the news section. Bart and Lisa find themselves in Prof. Frink's basement and he uses the science of astrology on his new computer to show them their future, eight years from next Tuesday. In this future, Maggie is away on a trip to Alaska; Homer and Marge have separated and Bart and Lisa are getting ready for prom. Lisa's date is Milhouse, who and Bart is dating a skateboard chick named Jenda. Lisa is graduating 2 years early and is going to Yale (now owned by McDonalds) on a scholarship funded by Mr. Burns as punishment for stealing Christmas. Bart is also graduating and is ready to move to the next level of his relationship with Jenda, he wants to marry her but his vision of their future together makes her break it off. Continue...
You know that a show has been around a long time when they start measuring milestones in episodic increments of 50. But it's understandable that "The Simpsons" should want to make a big deal out of hitting 350 episodes with this Sunday's installment.
As the legendary Fox series wraps up its 16th season, the denizens of Springfield are wading in some uncharted prime-time waters. When executive producer Al Jean boasts that "The Simpsons" "just enjoyed the best 16th season of any comedy ever," that's because no other comedy has ever made it this far.
How many episodes is 350? More than the combined total of "Seinfeld" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." "The Simpsons" will pass "Dallas" (357 episodes) on the all-time series list before 2005 is out. Then it takes aim at the only two comedies to have produced more segments: "My Three Sons" at 380 episodes and "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet" at a somewhat astounding 435. Can "The Simpsons" really make it to 435 -- a feat that would require the show see a (gasp) 20th season? Full Story.
If a person were to, for the sake of art or science, sit down and watch every episode of "The Simpsons" ever made, it would take him more than a week of no-sleep, back-to-back viewing in 350 half-hour increments.
In that marathon, the viewer would learn that life on a street called Evergreen Terrace never really changes, that Bart, Lisa and Maggie, along with their creator, Matt Groening, will not grow up, and that the Simpsons, once viewed as the shock troops of cultural mortification, are a shining exemplar of family stability in the come-and-go world of television.
Groening, in spite of his hints in previous interviews that the show might be running its course, has found a second wind. "I think the show has almost reached its halfway point, which means another 17 years," he said - and this of a show that is already the longest running now on U.S. television.

Producers of the popular series pulled a show called The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost, intended to be broadcast in America April 10th, in case of offending Catholics in the aftermath of the pontiff's death.
