When she discovered a lump in her breast as a young woman, a terrified Marcia Wallace returned to her hometown and her trusted Uncle Jimmy, the doctor, to have it removed. While the lump was benign, the experience served as practice for the day years later when Wallace actually was diagnosed with breast cancer. Entitled "Don't Look Back, We're Not Going That Way," Wallace's book covers her painful childhood, her career — she's appeared on stage, in films and television shows, including Taxi, Murphy Brown, Seventh Heaven and Providence, winning an Emmy for her role as Ms. Edna Krabapple on The Simpsons — her midlife marriage, and cancer. Now a breast cancer advocate who speaks on behalf of the Komen Foundation, Wallace says it was sharing her story with family and friends that evolved first into her advocacy, and later her book.
