We present a list of Simpsons underground jokes
- instances where we the viewer is
treated to a cross-section of the floorboards between the Simpson home. We also list all
the underground jokes too!
Lead piping and asbestos insulation can be seen between the living room and Lisa's bedroom, as well as a dead mouse.
A snake is between the floors of Springfield Elementary (between 4th and 2nd grade classrooms).
As the camera pans up to Otto reading Lisa a ghost story, gold and jewels fill the floor space between the living room and Lisa's bedroom.
After Maggie is put to bed, we see a reel-to-reel tape recorder and microphone is recording, underneath her room.
On the Season 7 DVD, there is a short deleted scene where the camera pans up from Bart & Lisa in the basement to Homer & Marge in their bedroom. There are termites in the floorboards between each of the floors.
After Marge yells at Homer, she is in bed while Homer paces downstairs. The floor is full of secret service wires, labelled: NSA, FBI, ATF, CIA, KGB and MGI.
Bart & Lisa watch Itchy & Scratchy early on Sunday morning, and their laughing wakes Marge up. Snowball II appears to be trapped between the living room and the main bedroom.
Newly-hatched lizards are between Homer and Marge's bedroom and the living room. In this instance, the camera stops for a few seconds to show a third egg hatching.
As well as under the floorboards, some interesting things can be seen underground.
As the townspeople mine down to rescue Bart, you can see a dinosaur skeleton, pirate's treasure chest (and his skull), and an alien spaceship. The skeleton inside resembles the standard Simpsons alien design like Kang/Kodos.
When the Simpsons fly to Australia, the camera pans down through the Earth. First we see a set of coffins, in one of which the person was buried alive and tried to escape, then some dinosaurs in coffins.
At the centre of the Earth, the Indian god Vishnu is operating some controls. As we move back to the surface under Australia, remains of the Skylab space station can be seen (debris from its re-entry in 1979 was scattered across Western Australia).
In the future, Ms. Hoover reveals that Martin Prince had perished in a science fair explosion. We then pan down, passing a skeleton torso, with one leg above him, then a treasure chest, then the skeleton's other leg.
Finally we reach Martin, dressed as the Phantom of the Opera, who says,
Not quite perished, my lady love, although some days I wish I had.
