Forgotten the name? Can't place the face? Don't worry, Bart Simpson and his family may be able to help you.Scots scientists have found that the best way to recall names and faces is to try and match the personality and appearance of strangers to characters in the hit show. Now the Glasgow University team has been given £75,000 to carry out a two-year study.Team leader Professor Mike Burton said: "Learning a face is a visual process but it helps to have a story to go with it.
"By convincing themselves a stranger's face fitted the part of Homer, Bart or Marge, people were able to recognise them as well as if they had been an old friend."In the Simpsons experiment, participants shown 10-second clips of complete strangers struggled to remember all the names. But another group was told they were actors being cast in a Simpsons movie, going for the parts of Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart, Grampa Simpson, Patty, Ned Flanders, Rev Lovejoy and Principal Skinner. The pass rate shot up to between 76 per cent and 100 per cent, with those said to be playing Bart and Homer drawing the highest recognition.

Finally the UK get what us Americans got a chance to see a few months ago, the 300th (er.. 302nd) episode of the Simpsons. Just like in the US the event is getting quite a bit of press. Things like someone dressing up as Marge and posing for pictures with a Buckingham Palace Guard to a full out interview with Executive Producer Al Jean doing a full out interview with This Is London. The interview goes into topics of the show going over 500 episodes, the show "jumping the shark" and even a possibility of the show having an Iraqi theme for one of the episodes. Along with the questions was the question of whether or not Tony Blair would be on the show as a special guest, this actual question was confirmed as a "Yes" with a large amount of articles which talk about Tony Blair taking some time away from his schedule to do the special guest voice for the show. Read about it in The Mirror or Sky News.
Doh! David Beckham has been given the boot from a guest role on the Simpsons - because producers said he is not famous enough.
Creators of the show were planning to approach the Man Utd football star to see if he would agree to be written into the hit cartoon, celebrating its 300th episode on Sky One on April 20.
But executive producer Al Jean admits that hardly anyone in America, where the series is made, knows who he is.
Speaking in London, Jean said "We thought about Becks but football isn't as big over in the US. He's not really famous enough".
Beckham was to be approached to appear in a special with Homer & Co, set in the UK, when the dysfunctional family visits London.
Notable guest voices for the programme include Sir Ian McKellen and Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, both playing themselves.
Jean said: "Lisa asks her, 'Could you tell me what happens in the last Harry Potter book', and JK Rowling says 'He grows up and marries you - is that what you want to hear?'".
Another forthcoming guest is British actress Jane Leeves, best-known as Daphne in the hit comedy series Frasier and one of the highest-paid women in TV. She plays Homer's half-sister - a female British version of Homer.
